Encounter Type

While roaming Pathfinder Online (PFO) you will experience random monster encounters. The strength and frequency of these encounters is governed by the hex encounter type. Mouse over hexes for information.

NPCstarterIcon NPC: These hexes are relatively safe and some even have NPC Thornguards in them. NPC hexes only have Tier 1 resources, cannot be invaded by escalation cycles, and cannot be claimed by Companies. Elevation Change Hexes are also NPC Hexes.
wildernessHexIcon Wilderness: These hexes are the most common in PFO. They have both Tier 1 and Tier 2 resources. They can both be invaded by escalation cycles and claimed by Companies.
npcSettlementHexIcon Badlands : These hexes are areas where the monsters and terrain make it difficult to settle. Badland hexes have Tier 1 and 2 resources and can be invaded by escalation cycles. The cannot be claimed by companies. [These areas are also placeholders for future features of PFO, possibly for dungeons.]
monsterHexIcon Monster: These hexes are dangerous places where monsters tend to dell. Monster factions can often be found setting up camp in these hexes before invading other hexes. Monster hexes have Tier 1, 2 and 3 resources, including enchanting materials. These hexes are the sources for escalation cycles. Monster hexes cannot be claimed by companies.
monsterHomeHexIcon Monster Homeland: These hexes are homes for one of the major monster factions in the game. Each Monster Homeland has a single monster faction that can nearly always be found there in large, densely packed numbers. Each monster Homeland will only spawn the escalation cycles of the monster faction that claims that hex. Monster Homelands have Tier 1, 2 and 3 resources, including enchanting materials. They cannot be claimed by companies.
playersettlementIcon Player Settlement : These hexes have been claimed by Companies who have developed the hex to be their home. Other companies can bond to the founding company and also call the hex home. Settlement membership provides
